What’s one piece of job-seeking journey I wish everyone knew?

An informative profile summary (or) About section

📢 The first impression is the best impression.

💡
In how many seconds do you skip the ad on a YouTube video?

Most likely 5 seconds

On an average, recruiters spend just 7 seconds reviewing a CV. That's it!

If you're applying for a job, you send your CV for review.

Likewise, if you send a connection request on LinkedIn, you send your LinkedIn profile for review.

In both cases, the about or summary section is common and very important to have it informative.

If you do not grab the attention in 7 seconds from a recruiter, chances of getting an interview call are very minimal.

👉🏻 Now, it is always recommended to consider writing the summary that has answers to the below questions before sharing your cv or a LinkedIn profile:

  1. Does the summary reflect your target profile and your skillset?
  2. What kind of problems can you solve for a company?
  3. What kind of value do you bring to the company?
  4. What have been your achievements?
  5. Do you have a growth mindset?

The answers to all these questions should be covered in the "About" section of your CV and LinkedIn profile

📝 One example for LinkedIn about section of a Mechanical Engineer:

Hi, My name is Sameer.

I am a Mechanical Engineer, who completed my graduation in the year 2020.

Although I could not find a full-time opportunity, but I was fortunate enough to get freelance projects on HVAC design from my network.

As someone who has actively participated in the design of HVAC design projects for the last year, I had the opportunity to work on the concepts I have learned in my academics in a real-life situation.

During my academics, I was part of the 4-person project team wherein we designed HVAC design for a villa project.

I was responsible for cooling load calculations using HAP software. I also have developed communication skills and critical thinking towards the completion of the project.

This has further reinforced my interest in pursuing HVAC designing as a full-time career.

Having the required skillset and academic experience with an eagerness to grow, I am seeking a full-time opportunity as a Mechanical Engineer to learn and develop projects not limited to HVAC design.
